There are certain verses I just can’t shake. This is one of them. This is the verse that inspired my first record As Sure As the Sun, and Brand New Day is a brand new way to sing about the same hope that I can’t stop being grateful for day in and day out. Each day we get a new start. What a relief!!! I love that God knew we might forget about that fresh start every day, so He sends up the sun to remind us.
There has been so much to grieve these days, and this verse reminds me too that when our hearts are heavy with the weight of loss and brokenness here on this earth, there will be new mercies to help carry us when it feels like we might not be able to carry on any longer. It was a joy to sing this song at the Ryman last night and it’s most definitely the kind of truth I want to set my gaze upon so that it becomes the refrain that’s sung in my soul.
