“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
-Luke 12:25
I read this verse today and burst into tears. These times are tense. It’s true. So much is up in the air with the election. So much hangs in the balance. People on both sides of the election feel fearful, worried, sad, angry. When these feelings wash over you, consider that people on the other side are feeling the exact same way. I’m having to remind myself right now that worrying about something doesn’t change it. So this is a gentle reminder to breathe deep, and remember that God is with you.
So often anxiety comes for me when I think of the future, but don’t imagine God there. The truth is though, there is an ever present current of love that will carry us through if we’ll only let it. God’s love is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So here’s an invitation for me and for you to let go of worry, breathe deep, and ground ourselves firmly in love. No matter how this election turns out, we’ll continue the work of loving our neighbors, of walking humbly, loving mercy, and doing justice. Perhaps the tension we all feel will remind us to be empathetic with each other.
One thing’s for sure, love never fails. We’ll never regret moving forward in love. So let’s stop scrolling frantically, put down our phones, let go of worry, and hold onto love.
