Fighting Words Friday: Mercy & Love of Old

“Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.”

-Psalm 25:6

I love how conversational many of the Psalms are. They always feel like an invitation to me, an invitation to lean into the arms of God and come as I am. Grateful that because of God’s great love and mercy, we can come with all of our weakness, all of our mistakes,  all of our doubts, all of our troubles, all of our hopes, and all of our dreams. We can come and converse with the God of the universe. This seems wild to me, but I’m so grateful that each time I pray, I am running into love and mercy of old. This is one of the verses that inspired my song “I Place My Hope.”

“Oh mercy, love of old, in You I place my hope. I place my hope. “

Lord, help me remember that my hope isn’t in how I perform or how good I am, it’s in You and Your undending goodness. I don’t have to hide from You when I make mistakes. I can bring my brokenness, my burdens, my joys, and my worries to you. Thank you that you are always there with open arms to welcome me with mercy and love of old.
