“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV
I had the privilege of writing the song for this verse with my brother, John Bannister. He is an incredible guitar player, and when I was writing for my last full length record, I asked him to send me any song ideas that he had. I was on a drive when I got the email with the musical idea he had written. I remember being moved to tears. It was beautiful and intricate and comforting, so I immediately began searching for verses that had to do with God’s comfort.
What a beautiful gift that we get to comfort others with the comfort we ourselves have received. He intended it that way, for us to give away what He gives to us freely and endlessly to us. I hope this verse and this song bring you comfort and hope today. They are both a sweet reminder for me that I can turn to God with whatever burdens I am carrying to find rest, love, and support.
