Fighting Words Friday: Wailing to Dancing

“You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever.”

-Psalm 30:11-12

This verse has woven its way into several of my songs (The Broken Beautiful, Love Broke Through). I’ve seen God do this in my life over and over again, and I can’t get over it. The stories that I have to tell about Jesus are not stories of how faithful and holy I’ve been, but about how faithful He has been to meet me in my most broken places. It’s backwards and upside-down, but I can trace His goodness and mercy back to every single time my heart has been heavy or broken or full of shame. He has shown up to offer His love to me over and over again. If you’re in a season of wailing, know that you are not alone… and that this will not be the end of the story. We are free to lament to evil and brokenness in this world, but we also have good reason to look forward to the hope Christ offers us.

“And now my heart will sing and not be silent, for how could I contain the joy that You’ve given? You took my fears and You took my shame and gave me a new name. Your love has called me out, out of my sorrow, out of my broken places. Hope has been renewed, ‘cause there in the darkness Love broke through. You gave us hope. When hope was lost. You came and died upon a cross, so we could know that we are not alone. God with us. God with us. He will never let us go.” - Love Broke Through
