Fighting Words Friday: Jars of Clay

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,because the Lord has anointed meto proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,-2.jpeg

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

-2 Corinthians 4:7

I love this verse because it always reminds me that God doesn’t need us to be perfect or grand or beautiful or talented to use us. Truth? I have felt like not enough today. I keep trying to do too much and feel like I’m failing at all the things. When I read through this verse this morning though, I was reminded that God doesn’t require us to be enough. He has more than enough to pour into us each day. Each moment. We mainly just need to be open to receiving His love and let it flow through us.

We are not trophies. We’re  jars… carriers and conduits of His love. In fact, I think the more unqualified we are to do the things He calls us to do the better... that way He gets all the credit. Lord, the next time I feel like I am “not enough”, help me to remember to be still enough to receive Your love, so that even though I’m cracked and far from perfect, Your love is what pours out of me, especially from my broken places. Thank you that even though my energy, my patience, and my time all run out,  Your love and mercy and power never do.
