I’ll never forget a conversation that I had with my little sister a few years ago. We were talking about how tiring it is to play the game of comparison. Comparison makes us feel like we never measure up, it always steals our joy, and it is usually the beginning of 1,000 lies that we end up believing about ourselves. My little sister looked up suddenly and said this: “Well, I don’t have time for this anymore. What if I actually took God at His word and believed that what HE says about me is true?” What a beautiful and powerful thought! I went home after that conversation and wrote the song “Wonderfully Made”. These verses have become fighting words for me. These are the promises I recall when I go to that all too familiar place of self-hatred. When I fall prey to comparison, I try to shift my perspective back to what God says about me. I try to remember that God made us on purpose and for a purpose, and that when He looks at each one of us, He sees us as His precious kids whom He made and loves deeply.
