“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” -1 Thessalonians 5:18
I LOVE a holiday that zeros in on this idea of being thankful. Over and over again in scripture, God tells us to practice giving thanks... and while this command feels hard, especially on days when we are facing all manner of sorrow and loss and suffering, His love for us never changes, and that is always reason rejoice.
I know it is always so good for my heart to focus on things to be thankful for rather than things to complain about. We live in a broken and imperfect world, for sure, and there is plenty to complain or worry about, but God knows it’s not best for us to dwell on these things.
What are you thankful for today? Whenever I begin to spend time thinking about things I’m grateful for, it almost always changes my perspective and my heart.
So here’s a list of things I happen to be very thankful for today: time with my family, running water and plumbing, chocolate chip cookies, good books, new mercies every morning, laughing, card games, bikes, crisp weather, sunshine, dogs, and flowers.
What are you thankful for?
