“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

- 1 Colossians 1:17

"When I felt the light of the moon on my face, the memory of sun that'd been shining for days. You've already been in this desolate place. You've already been here and You made a way. Pin pricks of glory strung out across the sky. Memories of darkness undone by the light. Reminding me You are right here by my side. You're here by my side. You're here by my side. Cause out here in the dark, underneath a canopy of stars, constellations falling from your heart. They tell me that I'm not alone. I know that I'm never alone, cause You find me and bring me back home. And I'm never alone, I'm never alone, I'm never alone. Out here in the dark."

These are lyrics from my new song that released today, Constellations. When I wrote this song with David Leonard and Jon Guerra, this verse from Colossians is one of the promises that came to mind.  It reminds me that, even in the middle of this COVID chaos, in the middle of so many things falling apart, lost in the middle of an ocean of individual and collective grief, we are held. We may not feel it. I don't feel it many days, but this is why I love the story of Jesus. He's been to the depths of all of our pain/ache/longing/hurt/death/brokenness/loss, and He's moved through it. There is an empty grave and a reason to sing. We can grieve. We can lament. We can shake our fist at the sky and yell at the top of our lungs,  "WHY?' And yet, the stars shine on, reminding us that darkness never has the final word. Whispering and winking at us so we don't forget that we are held together in the arms of Love, even as we fall apart.

He's been here before, and He's made a way for all of us to hold onto hope, even when we don't have all the answers. I hope you see the moon glowing silver tonight, or the stars dancing across the dark expanse of sky above and remember that you are not alone. You are held together by arms of love. Thank you for your kind words about the song today. I've felt less alone hearing your voices and stories, and I'll be forever honored that I get to sing and lament and shake my fist at the sky and remember what’s true alongside you. I'll also be forever grateful that no matter where we are, Love is holding us together.
