Fighting Words Friday: Darkness is as Light to You

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day  for darkness is as light to you.”

- Psalm 139:11-12

These days are crazy strange and at moments they feel crazy dark, scary, and lonely. These are the days and the seasons that I need constant reminders of the truth. ⁣

We had just arrived in CO for spring break with our kids and some friends when we were made aware that this whole COVID-19 situation took a turn for the worse. We went home as soon as we could and are now self-quarantined for the next few weeks. As we read the news out in Colorado and started making plans to get home, and counting the cost that this virus has had across the globe and now our country, I found my chest and shoulders getting tight. There’s so much unknown with this, but I walked outside on the very night that the stress and fear started creeping in, and I looked up at the sky. ⁣

In the middle of the pitch black dark night, the stars were shining bright, bravely blazing in the dark, reminding me that no matter how dark these days might feel, there is hope and light. Darkness will never have the final word, because the Light of the world has overcome death and darkness. We are not alone. Love will have the final word. ⁣

Lord, help me look at the stars on the nights that fear is getting the best of me. Help me remember that no darkness will be too dark for your love and light to overcome.
