The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
-John 1:14
I love that John describes Jesus as being full of both grace and truth. I’m studying John this month and loving this book by Michael Card called John, The Gospel of Wisdom. Card explained that the best translation of the word “grace” here is this: “When the one from whom I have a right to expect nothing gives me everything.” I LOVE this. I love that even when we face the truth of who we really are with all of our shortcomings and weakness and failures, we encounter the truth and grace of who Jesus is pouring His light and love and life out for us, even when we don’t deserve it. This is good news. This is the gospel. It’s not up to us to be good enough. God sent His son to dwell among us so we could know that He isn’t out to get us. He’s out to draw us near.
