“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”
-Colossians 3:16
This is the verse that made me want to start writing scripture into songs. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” I have seen such beauty grow in my heart and soul when I choose to meditate on the truth and promises that are in God’s word. I started memorizing scripture almost a decade ago with a friend of mine who battles depression because we both realized there were so many lies we were believing, and it wasn’t enough to just acknowledge the lies. We desperately needed to hold on to what is true. So we started memorizing scripture as a way to kick back at the darkness with the light. I’ve seen such flourishing in my heart as I’ve let the word of Christ dwell in me richly. It’s given me solid ground to stand on when the shame storms roll in, but God’s word often ends up pouring out of me.
